How to protect cruise ships from lightning?
How protected cruisers if they are hit by lightning?
The metal of the ship acts as a Faraday cage and let the rays electric charge to go to "land" in the water with minimal risk to the crew or passengers. I suspect there is an additional protection at the highest points of the ship to help the derivation of electricity to the water as well. The other thing to note is that cruises are mobile. They often avoid areas of rain and electrical storms (tropical storms in particular), and they want their passengers the most convenient and enjoyable trip so maybe have another cruise later.
